Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission has called on the government to ensure safety of journalists and grant them freedom of expression.
In a statement on the protection of the Right to Press Freedom, ZHRC called on the government to allow journalist to work without interference.
“Government should enable media houses which are in compliance with laws regulating the media to operate without interference and undue restraint,” The statement said.
ZHRC stated out all journalists’ rights that should be considered by the government.
“It includes the right to report news , circulate opinions without interference from the government and the protection of the confidentiality of journalists’ sources of information as well as guarantee of the safety of journalists, among others.” ZHRC said.
Meanwhile, ZHRC urged the media to report news with accuracy
“Media should report truthfully and without fear or favour,” ZHRC added.
