By-elections Not A Priority- ZANU PF

ZANU PF Director of Information, Mr Tafadzwa Mugwadi says by- elections are not a priority as compared to saving lives.

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga who is also the Minister of health earlier this month suspended by-elections indefinitely, citing reasons to protect the country from the further spread of corona virus .

In an interview with 263times, Mugwadi said that as ZANU PF they support the suspension of the by -elections by the Vice President so as to allow government to first curb the spread of covid-19.

“The position of the Party is that government must be given time to win the war on covid-19 without undue disturbances.

“That means by-elections are not as imperative because the priority is to save people’s lives” He said.

Meanwhile, the ruling ZANU PF and the main opposition MDC Alliance held primary elections over the weekend respectively to prepare for elections to fill parliamentary and council vacancies left by fired MDC Alliance members who were recalled by the rival Thokozani Khupe led MDC T party.

Zanu PF held primary elections in Epworth where Kudakwashe Damson emerged victorious, while the MDC Alliance also held primary elections in Kuwadzana to choose a candidate to replace Miriam Mushayi who passed on in September.

According to the World Health Organization, elections can be held in this Covid -19 pandemic as long as prescribed safety measures are followed.
