United Refineries Closes Due To Water Shortages

United Refineries Limited, a food manufacturing industry in Bulawayo has temporarily closed down operations due to water shortages in the second largest city.

In a press statement today, United Refineries said, the company will close operations for a while as they are facing water challenges for the whole week.

” We regret to inform our customers, suppliers and stakeholders that we have had limited water supplies to our factory for the last 7 days and the situation has not improved. As a result we have had to temporarily suspend our factory operations as we await the situation to normalise.” The statement read.

United Refineries Limited said they continue to engage with Bulawayo City Council so that they return to normalcy

“We continue to engage Bulawayo City Council with regard to the returning the situation to normality. We are aware this is happening as we prepare for the festive season stocking programmes and promotions.” The statement further read.

The city of Bulawayo is experiencing the worst water crisis in its modern history and the blame is on ZINWA’s failure to expand its pumping capacity in tandem with the growing population.
