The Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) intends to licence at least 10 community radio stations and 19 campus radio stations for a 10-year period before end of the year 2020.
Posting on their twitter handle, BAZ said the Authority is currently meeting with different communities that are willing to have their radio stations licenced. They urged communities to submit additional information to their applications for the BAZ Board to make its determination early.
“The BAZ continues with Community Radio fact-finding meetings and today the Authority met Matobo Community Radio Trust in Maphisa. The Authority is set to meet other communities in Plumtree, Hwange, Binga and Kariba.” BAZ said.
Six new free-to-air private television stations were licensed by BAZ on November 20 and are expected to go live in Zimbabwe within the next 18 months, ending State broadcaster, ZBC-TV’s 64-year monopoly.
