Zimbabwe has today joined the rest of the world in commemorating the International day for women.
Posting on social media, first lady Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa said the government is helping to empower women achieve their dreams.
“Happy International Womens Day! Women are defying gender stereotypes right across our country, and the government is helping to empower Zimbabweans to achieve their full potential.” She said.
Leader of the main opposition party, MDC Alliance, Advocate Nelson Chamisa commemorated women’s day saying women are the backbone of society as their capacity to lead is incredible.
“Thankful to all women who strive and fight to make a difference and make our nation great. Women’s capacity to organize, lead and achieve is incredible. Women are society’s backbone, nation builders who carry and sustain societies to create an equal future.” Advocate Chamisa said.
Meanwhile, World Health Organisation (WHO) commemorates women’s day with selfless women who commit themselves to the delivery of health care services especially in this Covid-19 pandemic.
“Happy International Women’s Day to all women who have continued to stand on the frontline responding to the COVID19 pandemic, promote maternal health and take the leading role in the delivery of health care services.” WHO Zimbabwe posted on their twitter handle.
The media also took part in educating the nation on women’s day celebrations.
Media Monitors formally Media Monitoring Project Zimbabwe (MMPZ), a platform that conducts media monitoring and analyses trends in the Zimbabwean media urged Zimbabweans to push for equality and to celebrated women achievements.

International Women’s Day is celebrated every year on March 8 so as to promote gender equality within societies.
