The father of the late 9 years old Tapiwa Makore who was murdered in cold blood last year, suffered double jeopardy after a conman took advantage of his loss and swindled him of cash, a court heard.
Desperate to find his son’s missing head, Munyaradzi Makore, 40, hired a vehicle from Taurai Fitzgerald Mukumba, 37, intending to drive to Malawi where some faith healers had claimed he would find it.
Tapiwa Makore was allegedly killed by his namesake uncle for ritual purposes.
His father paid Mukumba Z$4500 plus US$125 for a car hire that never materialized, prosecutors told a magistrate this week at the defendant’s arraignment.
Instead of meeting his end of the bargain, Mukumba started giving excuses until the complainant made a police report.
Mukumba admitted to receiving the money in court, but said he failed to produce the vehicle “because of the lockdown.”
The Makore family has been desperately looking for the murdered boy’s missing head since last year with no success.
The police announced a few days ago that DNA tests have confirmed that a head found in the village where the killing was committed three days after the incident, belonged to the boy.
However, the family is disputing the results.
