Successful Launch Of Teachers Protest

Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) has thanked Zimbabweans for a successful launch of the teachers,  #SaveOurEducation Campaign that was launched yesterday.

Teachers Unions have engaged in fifty six (56) protests that have resulted in zero arrests.

It has been reported that in the past, 23 cases have been reported of either threats or harassment.

”Thank you Zimbabwe for a successful launch. Zero arrests after 56 protests. Only 23 cases reported of either threats or harassment. The #SaveOurEducationZw campaign will now proceed under 5 million voices four our 5 million learners.” ARTUZ posted on their twitter handle.

Meanwhile, people have been urged to share their own voice pledging support.

Some people are calling upon the government to provide free education for students.

MDC A Spokesperson, Advocate Fadzayi Mahere posted on their twitter handle that the government must act swiftly on the education crisis to avert disaster.

“The plight of teachers is a cause for concern. The government must act swiftly on the education crisis to avert imminent disaster. Pay teachers a living wage . This neglect of the sector is why Grade 7 learners in various areas can not read.” The post reads.

Teachers are currently on strike demanding a salary increase to US$520 or rtgs equivalent.
