Most 2020 grade seven pupils are left stranded after failing to secure form one places at respective High Schools as they are only enrolling pupils who passed with flying colors.
Most 2020 grade seven examiners are at risk of dropping out of school given that they have not yet secured form one places.
The agony is more unbearable for parents and guardians who participated in the construction of the same schools that are now demanding a certain number of units for a student to be enrolled.
At Kambuzuma High School and Murewa High School most pupils are still on the waiting list.
Speaking to some students, we learnt that most form1 students have already lost hopes of securing places.
”I could not secure a place at Kambuzuma High, they put me on the waiting list, ndakatsvagawo nzvimbo pane zvimwe zvikoro zviri muKambuzuma asi ndaishayiwa , I have 25 units saka kuwana nzvimbo kuri kunetsa.”Said Rufaro.
At Murewa High School they wanted to enroll boarder students only and just a few day scholars.
”Murewa High School wanted boarder students and very few day scholars and I could not secure a place with 8 units up to now.” Said Edwin.
A disturbed parent whose child is struggling to get enrollment at a day school expressed her concerns.
”Schools are denying locals access to basic education citing issues of cut off units bat, we are now forced to send our children to the village and study there where they will walk for more than 12 km.” she said.
She added that students will be forced to abandon school.
”Some kids are being forced to abandon school, hence the number of drop outs being recorded in the country, the government must do something.”
