MDC Alliance Activist Sentenced To 14 Months In Jail

Harare Magistrate, Judith Taruvinga has today sentenced MDC Alliance Activist, Makomborero Haruzivishe to 14 months in prison for charges of inciting public violence and resisting police arrest.

Makomborero who was arrested last week during vendors’ demonstrations in Harare was to serve 24 months in prison in which 10 months were suspended.

In their defense, the MDC Alliance said Makomborero was not part of the demonstrators but was just having a meal at chicken inn, first street.

The sentencing was chaotic as the MDC Alliance supporters gathered at the Magistrate court demanding the freedom of Makomborero holding placards written #freeMako.

Meanwhile, the MDC Alliance described the sentencing of Makomborero as a “Political Persecution”.

“A devastating turn of events, Mako has been sentenced to an effective 14 months in prison. This is a clear example of political persecution.” MDC Alliance posted on twitter.

Supporters of the MDC Alliance held a night vigil last night praying and advocating for the freedom of Makomborero but all efforts proved to be in vain.
