Portugal football giants FC Porto will face a tough match next week Tuesday when they host Chelsea in UEFA champions league quarter final second fixture match, after their 2-0 defeat yesterday at Servillar’s home ground, Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in Spain.
Chelsea defeated Porto 2-0 in the first-leg, and now Porto would be required to win by at least three goals in the second leg for them to qualify for the semifinals.
The first goal of the match was registered in the 32nd minute as Mount got his name in the goal-scoring charts. No other goals were scored in the first half and as a result, Chelsea entered the half-time with a 1-0 cushion.
In the second half, both teams tried to press hard but the goal did not come for either side till the 85th minute when the former Leicester City star Chilwell got his name in the scoring charts to give Chelsea a 2-0 lead.
Furthermore there were no more goals which were scored in the game and in the end, the England giants walked away with a 2-0 win over Porto. In the entire game, Chelsea had three shots on target as compared to Porto’s five.
In terms of ball possession, Chelsea dominated this front with 61 per cent as compared to Porto’s 39.
Meanwhile, Porto will have to beat Chelsea three goals to nil in their penultimate match against the London rivals next week Tuesday for them to be able to proceed to the semifinals. The match will be played in England.
Chelsea current performance compromises FC Porto’s chance to proceed to the semifinals having won at Atletico Madrid in February, the blues also won consecutive away knockout games in the Champions league for the First time since April 2004 under Claudio Ranieri. In Addition no side has conceded fewer goals or secure more clean sheets in this season’s Champions League more than Chelsea.
Furthermore since Thomas Tuchel first game in charge of Chelsea in January, no goalkeeper playing for a five European league side has kept more clean sheets in all competitions that Chelsea goalkeeper Edouardy Mendy who have only ten.
However last night’s match was a perfect response by Chelsea after last weekend’s embarrassment, the blues displayed a resilient, determined and professional performance against a team that had eliminated Juventus in the previous round.
Tuchel reacted to the West Brom shambles last weekend by making five changes, with Rudiger among those recalled despite his ‘heated’ row with Arrizabalaga at Chelsea training ground.
This coming weekend Chelsea have a London derby at Crystal Palace on Saturday at 17:30 BST to negotiate before the return leg with Porto next Tuesday at 20:00.
Moreso, the winners of this tie face Real Madrid or Liverpool in the semi-finals and the Blues also have an FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City on 17 April.
