Government Speaks On The Re -emerging Of Kombis

Government says law enforcement agents will intensify efforts to curb the re-emergence of illegal transport operators countrywide as they are violating the Covid-19 regulations.

Addressing delegates during a Post Cabinet Media Briefing yesterday, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said a number of people that have so far been arrested for flouting lockdown regulations.

”17 727 arrests have been made countrywide during the week under review for defying lockdown regulations, bringing the total arrested so far to 607 386 since the start of the pandemic in Zimbabwe.” Mutsvagwa said.

She added that most Kombi operators have returned their vehicles back on the roads and are operating as before.

She said transport operators are not observing the Covid-19 preventive measures such as sanitising passengers and disinfecting their vehicles.

Furthermore, she said they have received information that some transport operators that previously owned Kombis have sold them and reinvested in buying fuel -saving vehicles such as Vits, Honda Fit and Toyota Wish Cars that are now crowding both urban routes and highways.
