Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes says he was relieved with Manchester United performance in Europa Champions League.
Manchester United had a 6-2 advantage over Roma before their second leg Europa League semi-final which was played In England at Old Trafford where Roma managed to secure a 3-2 win, however Roma victory was unfortunate because United had already secured 8 goals advantage on goal aggregate as compared to Roma which managed only 5 goals on both legs.
Bruno Fernandes, who had not played in the final with United since joining them in January 2020 said he was pleased with his side improvement insisting that they were going to fight hard to secure more trophies.
“For us, it is a sign of improvement, because last season we didn’t win anything, It’s still not enough for us but it is something growing up from the club and the players and a sign we’re doing a little bit better. We will improve.” said Fernandez.
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer added that it was a huge achievement for United to reach Europa final insisting that his side was looking forward to lift the trophy.
“It feels good to be in the final,” added Solskjaer. “We played one very good half at Old Trafford which has taken us through. I’m disappointed we’ve lost this game. It was a strange game. We kept giving them the ball but luckily we have one of the the best keepers in the world. As a team we need to develop and improve, so we’re going to play to win the game on 26 May,” he said.
The Europa League was the last trophy United won when it was managed by Jose Mourinho, they beat Ajax 2-0 in the final in May 2017.
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes has been directly involved in 30 Europa League goals (19 goals, 11 assists), seven more than any other player. United are looking to progress to their first major final in any competition under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer; they have previously been knocked out of all four cup semi-finals under the Norwegian (two League Cup, one FA Cup, one UEFA Europa League). Manchester United have won each of their last four Europa League games, last winning five successive matches in all European competition in May 2011, before losing to Barcelona in the Champions League final at Wembley.
However Manchester United will face Villareal of Spain in Europa League final on 26 May.
