Former Caps United Midfielder Butler Masango Dies

Former Caps United midfielder Butler Masango has died.

The former Zimbabwe Under-23 and Caps United anchorman, popularly known as Bhatso controlled the midfield for the full 90 mins in the famous Zimbabwe vs Nigeria U23 battle at Rufaro Stadium in 1996.

Nigeria featured big names such as Austin ‘Jay Jay” Okocha, Nwanko Kanu and Celestine Babayaro.

Funeral and burial arrangements for the late Masango who died in South Africa where he was working as a coach will be announced in due course.

At the time of his death, Masango, who hung up his boots in the early 2000s, was still heavily involved in football and was running a football academy in Johannesburg. He was also a scout for South African Premiership side Kaizer Chiefs and was close to the club’s founder and owner Kaizer Motaung.

Masango was also the manager of several players, including Warriors midfielder Thabani Kamusoko, who he helped to get a contract with Zambian football side ZESCO United in 2019.
