MDC Alliance Spokesperson, Fadzai Mahere has urged Zimbabweans to unite and remove the ruling party ZANU PF from power in the upcoming 2023 elections.
Addressing journalists in Harare yesterday, Advocate Fadzai Mahere who was accompanied by MDC Alliance senior official, Ian Makoni, spoke about voter registration drive with issues to do with voter registration, diaspora vote, voter education and delimitation of constituency boundaries which they want the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to first address ahead of the upcoming 2023 elections.
Mahere emphasized that Zimbabweans must unite and defeat the ruling party claiming that Zanu PF has destroyed the country in all sectors and she reiterated that MDC Alliance was fully prepared to make sure that Zanu Pf is removed from power in the upcoming 2023 elections.
“We have to come together and form a united front and broader alliance to defeat Zanu Pf which has destroyed Zimbabwe, the ruling party must go and the MDC Alliance has no hesitation in heeding the charge which is why we stand here today firm as a nation only credible democratic alternative and ready to win Zimbabwe for change,” she said.
She also accused Provincial Development Coordinator for Harare Metropolitan Province, Tafadzwa Muguti and Minister of State for Harare Metropolitan Province Engineer Oliver Chidau for being part of last week’s demolitions in which government in partnership with city council destroyed illegal structures in Mbare as well as other areas in Harare.
Advocate Mahere added that the demolitions of illegal structures by government showed that they did not respect and value Zimbabwean citizens at all.
“The homes of livelihoods of poor citizens struggling to make a living in the midst of a global pandemic and in the middle of winter in Mbare, Chitungwiza and some parts of the Harare Metropolitan province, this has been executed by central government through Zanu Pf Tafadzwa Muguti and Oliver Chidau.
“Operation Murambatsvina is a stuck reminder of the young questionable fact that Zanu Pf is against the people and it is at war with the people and it does not have the people at heart,” said Mahere.
Meanwhile, Mahere also informed the nation on issues that is currently trending on social media about her party changing its name in the upcoming 2023 elections from MDC Alliance to MDC Chamisa.
She insisted that the issue of the party name was not the most important aspect for now adding that the name of the MDC Alliance party was going to come from its supporters whilst insisting that instead of focusing on the party name they were focusing on policies that are meant to transform the voter registration exercises.
Mahere’s clarification about MDC Alliance’s move to change its name came after MDC Alliance Vice President Tendai Biti had recently hinted that his party was going to change its name to MDC Chamisa, after alleged claims that the MDC T leader Douglas Mwonzora was planning to take over the MDC Alliance name and use it in the upcoming 2023 elections.
