The Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) has increased the transport fares effective from tomorrow, the first of July 2021.
The statement that was released by the transportation company yesterday showed that some fares were hiked by a 100%.
Local transportation that used to cost 30 rtgs will now cost 60 rtgs.
However the commuter omnibuses that cover the same distance will now cost 80rtgs from the previous 60rtgs.
The distance between 21 to 30km that used to cost 45rtgs will now go for 90rtgs for busses. For commuter omnibuses, the fares that used to go for 90rtgs will now go for 120rtgs for the same distance respectively.
For 31 to 40km, buses that used to cost 60rtgs will now cost 110 rtgs.
“Please note that in some instances we will be issuing more than one ticket so that we are able to clear the current stock of our ticket books.” ZUPCO said in a statement.
