Zim Celebrates The Life Of Joshua Nkomo

Zimbabwean politicians have joined together in celebrating the life of former Vice President, Joshua Mqabuko Nyongolo Nkomo who died on this day 22 years ago.

Nkomo who is known as father Zimbabwe served as the country’s Vice President from 1990 until his death in 1999.

President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa described Nkomo as a great man and hero of the liberation.

“22 years ago today, Zimbabwe lost a great man. Dr Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo is a hero of the liberation struggle, a man of the people, and a visionary who built a better Zimbabwe. Every day we strive to continue your legacy of unity, love, and peace.”  ED said.

The opposition party led by Nelson Chamisa, MDC Alliance had this to say, “today, the MDC Alliance remembers Father Zimbabwe who passed on this day in 1999. He served as Vice-President of Zimbabwe from 1990 until his death. His contribution to the liberation of our great nation will never be forgotten.” 

“We remember ChidzaChitebwa Dr JN Nkomo. MHSDRIP.” Politician and former Minister of local government, Saviour Kasukuwere said.

Permanent Secretary in the ministry of information, Nick Mangwana said the nation still remember the good works of Father Zimbabwe.

“Today is 22 years since the passing on of Chibwechitedza, Dr Joshua Nkomo. The Nation remembers. May His Soul continue to Rest in Peace.” He said.

Joshua Nkomo founded and led the Zimbabwe African People’s Union from 1961 until it merged in 1987 with the former President, Robert Mugabe’s Zimbabwe African National Union to form ZANU–PF.
