Third wave Covid-19 death toll continue to rise in the country with 56 people dying from the deadly virus yesterday.
This is the highest death toll to be recorded in a day in the present third wave of Covid-19 infection in Zimbabwe.
On Wednesday, Zimbabwe recorded 34 deaths due to the new variant.
Most of the deaths were recorded in Harare and Mashonaland West province.
The daily total of infection however dropped slightly to 2 156 from the 2 264 recorded on Wednesday.
Mashonaland West, which is the first province to be declared a hotspot and put under lockdown is continuing to see numbers falling.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe took delivery of two million Sinovac Covid-19 vaccines from China yesterday, with another 3,5 million expected this month, a positive move to reduce the continued spread of the Covid-19.
However, World Health Organisation (WHO) director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said Coronavirus variants are currently proving to be winning against vaccines produced so far.
These new variants range from Delta, Alpha, Gamma and Beta, which were first identified in India, United Kingdom, Brazil and South Africa hence there is need to continuously observe Covid-19 preventive measures.
