3 Heroes Laid To Rest

Three national heroes, Cde Michael Chakabva (Cde Vhuu), Lt Gen. Edzai Absolom Chimonyo and Cde Abraham Nkiwane, have been laid to rest this morning.

Cde Michael Chakabva and Lt Gen. Edzai Chimonyo were laid to rest at the National Heroes Acre in Harare whereas Cde Nkiwane was laid to rest in Umguza, Matabeleland North.

Addressing mourners at the National Heroes Acre in Harare today, President Emmerson Mnangagwa said the three heroes all fought for the freedom and independence of the country.

“The nation has been plunged into mourning after the passing on of three heroes

“Each of the 3 veterans fought at different stages. They travelled different parts in the quest for the freedom and independence of the mother country Zimbabwe. Set backs were complex, as we lay to rest these national heroes, i challenge that our heritage will remain the same.” ED said.

The three national heroes died last week.

Cde Nkiwane (93) succumbed to prostate cancer at the United Bulawayo Hospitals last Tuesday, while Lt-Gen Chimonyo (69) died at the Avenues clinic in Harare on Wednesday after battling cancer.

Cde Vhuu (78), died last Thursday after having been ill for some time.
