The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has warned reckless drivers against hit and run on the roads, following a series of these cases on local roads.
“The ZRP warns motorists against hit and run accidents. On, 02/08/21 at around 0500hrs, a man 45 was hit by an unknown motorist at Skyline Tollgate along Beatrice Rd. The victim died on the spot and the driver did not stop.
“In another hit and run RTA, which occurred in Hwange, a 43 year old man was hit by an unknown motorist along independence Rd on 31/07/21. The victim sustained some serious injuries and he succumbed to the injuries, on 01/08/21 at St Patrick’s Hospital.” ZRP said in a statement.
A lot of innocent pedestrians have perished due to reckless driving in Zimbabwe and as if that is not enough, most of these drivers flee from the accident scene leaving the victims vulnerable. The highway code specifically states that a driver should stop and call the police whenever he or she is involved in an accident.
