Dates For Schools Reopening Out

Government yesterday announced dates for the reopening of primary and secondary schools.

Examination classes will open on 30 August whilst all other classes will open on 6 September.

The announcement follows the level four lockdown which was issued by the government as a measure to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic.

All along parents were worried about the reopening of schools due to the continuous surge in Covid 19 cases across the country and some of the children have been doing online lessons.

Speaking during a post cabinet media briefing in Harare Minister Of Information Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Hon Monica Mutsvangwa said schools reopening will ensure that intercity transport for learners will be allowed.

“Cabinet is advising that schools will reopen on 30 August 2021 that is for examination classes and on 6 September for all non examination classes as such intercity transport for learners will be allowed during school reopening period subject to close monitoring by law enforcement agents,” she said.

She added that before the school dates were announcement, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education was working tirelessly together with the Ministry of Health and Childcare to create a safe environment for learners when schools reopen.

Hon Mutsvangwa revealed that the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education also joined hands with teachers institutions in ensuring that children will be free from Covid-19 infections when schools reopen.

“The collaboration in the Ministries of Primary and Secondary Education and Health and Childcare has buttressed the Covid-19 prevention in management systems. The two systems met with the provincial systems to evaluate progress in the implementation of the joint operational plan of the standard guidelines for the coordination prevention and management of Covid-19 in these learning institutions.

“Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education also met with teachers organizations in deliberating of the safe reopening of schools among many other issues noting with satisfaction the resumption of classes and schools,” said Mutsvangwa.

In Addition cabinet issued that restaurants will be allowed to open for sitting patrons who are fully vaccinated and who have vaccination cards whilst strict adherence to Covid-19 protocols will be a priority.
