Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr. John Mangwiro has on Sunday launched the church Covid-19 vaccination roll-out program, a move that will fast track the vaccination program in churches.
Government recently permitted churches to open for only vaccinated congregants.
Dr Mangwiro said the government is happy that the partnership will drive the national programme and make sure that the country attains herd immunity.
“Government is happy that this partnership will drive the national programme and make sure that we attain herd immunity. Once we are vaccinated vaccinated, our economy will open in full throttle.” He said.
The deputy Minister of Health however urged Zimbabweans to continue to observing Covid-19 regulations even if they are fully vaccinated.
“Health experts and scientists have all agreed that vaccination is the silver bullet to COVID-19. But if you are vaccinated, it does not mean that you should stop wearing masks, washing your hands and maintaining social distance,
“That way we will surely defeat the pandemic. We should understand that this is a highly- transmissible disease and needs our collective efforts to stop it” he said.” He said.
As at 30 August 2021, Zimbabwe had 124 581 confirmed cases, including 112 399 recoveries and 4 416 deaths. To date, a total of 2 552 573 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
