The Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum has filled an urgent chamber application at the High Court, seeking for the court to intervene and stop the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) from arresting commuters who board non Zupco transportation.

Last week the ZRP announces that those who will be caught boarding non Zupco transportation will be fined 2000rtgs.
This came following the transport crises in Zimbabwe especially in urban centers where the legal Zupco transportation are not enough for commuters who end up spending hours standing on long queues resulting to them hitch hiking on private transportation.
However, the Human rights forum has taken the matter to court, saying the fine is a violation of human rights.

“The Forum filed an urgent chamber application at the Harare High Court seeking a declarator to stop Police Zimbabwe from arresting and fining hitch-hikers ZWL2,000.” The human rights forum said in a statement.

Below is the chamber of application issued by the Zimbabwe human rights forum at the High Court of Zimbabwe:

The Forum is a coalition of 22 human rights NGOs in Zimbabwe working towards a society in which all human rights are respected.
