Zim And China Strengthens Bilateral Relations

Zimbabwe is holding an economic, reform and transformation training cooperation program with China which is meant to continuously  strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

The online training program which is in the process from the 6 to 10 September will enable Zimbabweans an opportunity to share views with their Chinese interlocutors as well as generate new ideas and approaches in strengthening Zimbabwe’s development agenda in various sectors of the economy.

Addressing the media during the program on Sunday, deputy chief  secretary in the office of the President and cabinet ambassador, Nicholas Kitikiti said for the country to succeed there is need to cooperate with China.

“It is a shared objective between the involved Zimbabwean and Chinese Institutions that these training sessions will continue to offer Zimbabwe some valuable experiences and lessons in terms of designing effective macro-economic policies, sectoral strategies and specific mechanisms for industrial development.

“Current reforms being undertaken by Zimbabwe are aimed at increasing national economic competitiveness, productivity, foreign direct investment inflows,  technology transfers and acquaintance with Chines business models,” he said.

Furthermore, Ambassador kitikiti said Zimbabwe’s agenda is to create an enabling environment for investment in line with the country’s vision 2030 of creating an upper Middle income economy by 2030.

“To date these Capacity Building programs has really assists our approaches in designing national development initiatives, in the near future cooperation with our hires partners, we will be evaluating the impact of this rich cooperation program.

“We plan to add value not including some training on marketing products and services to China, we will attempt, in further training sessions to cover matters of immigration processes and acquisition of work permits,” added Ambassador kitikiti.

China-Zimbabwe relations date back to January 1979, during the Rhodesian Bush war, the two countries formally established diplomatic relations on 18 April 1980, the day of Zimbabwe’s independence.

Zimbabwe is however ambivalent about the increasing Chinese influence on the economy in which most have complained about the low quality of Chinese goods, including buses.
