MDC Alliance Demands Electoral Reforms From ZEC

MDC Alliance has called on the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission {ZEC} to implement electoral reforms to ensure that the 2023 elections will be free and fair.

The opposition party has continuously called upon electoral reform transformation in their press conferences but none of their grievances has been addressed despite the fact that 2023 is around the corner.

Speaking during a media briefing in Harare today, MDC Alliance secretary for elections Councilor Ian Makone said ZEC needs to be transparent on voter registration information.

“Voter registration is a co competency in the election side that needs to be addressed, we estimate that out of 13 million Zimbabweans, a good 27% out of them are not registered to vote and these are mainly young people,” he said.

The MDC Alliance said they are concerned with the verification and audit of voters registration statistics by ZEC.

“On voter registration we have the aspect of the voters roll, we need a verifiable and auditable voters role and that voters roll should be available in time for us to actually scrutinize, to audit the voters role,” said Makone.

Meanwhile, MDC Alliance spokesperson, advocate Fadzayi Mahere corrected the nation on the recent social media reports which claimed that the Chamisa led faction was no longer a legitimate MDC party insisting that the name was there to stay whilst adding that they were not affected by various political parties who she said want to “destroy” their  party.
