The opposition MDC Alliance says it is targeting the youth in their campaign to win the 2023 elections.
Addressing the media in Harare this afternoon, MDC Alliance spokesperson, Fadzai Mahere said the MDC Alliance will reach every Zimbabwean even those in marginal areas so that they win the 2023 elections.
“Our campaign will be driven by the young. Zimbabweans will take advantage of the youth and young people will use their collective power to speak authoritatively against violence, against dictatorship and against corruption.
“We want to ensure that 6 million Zimbabweans vote for change, for transformation and for poverty eradication on election day in 2023. We will nock on doors, we will rally the urban masses, we will penetrate every village in our rural areas. We will ensure that no Zimbabwean is left behind in the fight to win Zimbabwe the change.” She said.
The MDC Alliance spokesperson said they will do better for Zimbabwe more than their main enemy, Zanu PF.
“People are sick and tired of the failure by Mr Mnangagwa’s regime to deliver on the 2018 election promises and to provide basic services to the citizens.” Lamented Mahere.
Meanwhile, on the MDC Alliance name, Mahere said they are still the rightful owners of the name until further notice.
“The MDC Alliance has a name and it’s the MDC Alliance, that is the party that participated in the 2018 elections under the presidential leadership of Nelson Chamisa and it won the votes that.
“The shenanigans by the regime to try and steal that name is a separate issue but it doesn’t ditract from the fact that we have a name and that name is the MDC Alliance. We will obviously say that we are building the new but from a factual perspective the name is there.” Added Mahere.
There is a battle between opposition parties’ ownership of the name, MDC Alliance with Douglas Mwonzora’s of the MDC T last month met with a coalition of opposition parties that contested the 2018 general elections and committed themselves to a coalition agreement in which they resolved to using the name MDC Alliance and called upon Nelson Chamisa’s party to stop “abusing” the name.
