Vice President and Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Costantino Chiwenga says Seed Co has managed to grow its continental footprint in its market segment across Africa, leveraging the power of the “Seed Co” brand equity and superior seed products which are adaptable to multi-geographical settings.
Speaking at the official opening of the Seed Co seed conditioning plant at Staple Ford in Mount Hapden yesterday, Chiwenga said the company’s seed products have been giving farmers an opportunity to have food surplus every year.
“The company’s seed products are the end result of long-term scientific breeding program.
“They are designed to add real and consistent value to every farming operation, giving farmers the opportunity to have food surplus year in, year out resulting in a good standard of living,” said Chiwenga.
The vice President praised Seed Co’s seeds for being resistant to diseases.
“Seed Co’s hybrid seeds bring with them appropriate immunity, resistance or tolerance to diseases and reliable high yield performance.
“When we talk re-engagement, Seed Co is in the forefront,” added Chiwenga.
Chiwenga went on to say that Seed Co has registered operations in different African countries.
“Seed Co has managed to grow its continental footprint in its market segment across Africa, leveraging the power of the “Seed Co” brand equity and superior seed products which are adaptable to multi-geographical settings.
“The company has ventured into the breeding and distribution of vegetable seed business on the African continent under the Prime Seed Co brand,” he added.
Furthermore, Chiwenga applauded Seed Co FOR making sure that all its employees are vaccinated.
“Seed Co has attained 99% of vaccinating their employees, in their corporate social responsibility program; Seed Co donated a total of 15 000 vaccines :11 000 to Agritex and 4 000 to the Mandebvu Community which is the surrounding community around here at Seed Co in Mount Hampden in Stapleford,” Chiwenga said.
Seed Co runs the largest single out grower scheme in the seed business and has the most extensive network of farmers, infrastructure, resources, geographical reach.
The company’s products are currently being distributed in Lesotho, Swaziland and Uganda.
In 1983 the Seed Co-operative Company of Zimbabwe was formed by seed producers, in July 1996 Seed Co converted into a public company and successfully listed on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange.
