Zimsec Exams To Begin End Of November

Despite the fact that learners lost time to attain proper education in the Covid-19 pandemic, government has announced that this year’s Zimsec examinations will commence without fail with grade seven learners writing end of November, just three months after schools re opening.

Grade seven learners recently went back to school on September 30 after spending three months at home and only learning for two terms instead of the normal three terms.

Responding to questions in Parliament, on Wednesday, Primary and Secondary Education Deputy Minister, Edgar Moyo said learners will have learnt sufficient by end of November and therefore shall be ready for exams.

“The examination dates have only been given so far as when they are going to begin and that is end November for grade sevens. Mid Dec, we are going to have the O and A levels which are going to overlap into 2022.” He said.

“We think are children would have been prepared for examinations by that time. He said.

Deputy Minister Moyo however said the government is employing for different learning strategies in schools such as online learning.

“With regards to the point that children have lost time, we are employing catch up strategies to ensure that the children do catch up and one of them is through blended learning where we are using different learning and teaching platforms.” He said.

“Inclusive of that is going to be materials that are going to be given to children. Some of them have been given those materials and e-learning is also underway so that they do catch up.” Deputy Minister Moyo added.

Schools had been expected to open for the second term on June 28, two weeks after they were closed but the surge in Covid-19 infections led to a postponement to end of September.
