
Coca-Cola Women’s Linc in partnership with Minerva Insurance have donated over ZW$1, 2 Million dollars to Special Olympics Zimbabwe (SOZ).
Speaking during the handover ceremony in Harare today, Sports and Recreation Commission, Acting Director General, Mr S Garakai urged people to always support through sporting activities people living with disabilities as that help them to discover their purpose.
“Let us always remember that through the power of sports, people with intellectual disabilities discover new strength and abilities, skills and new opportunities arise for them in every corner of the world. Special Olympics is changing the lives of people with intellectual disabilities through sport and recreation of which Zimbabwe is no exception,” he said.
Mr Garakai however showed gratitude to Coca-Cola and Minerva for remembering athletes with disabilities.
“Let me take this opportunity to remind everyone that it takes two to tangle, and I am happy on behalf of the Special Olympics Zimbabwe that Delta and Minerva are doing just that through the kind gesture being extended to Special Olympics.” He added.
Meanwhile, SOZ Board Chair, Mr C Mugadza said he is looking forward to more of such gestures by Coca-Cola and Minerva in the future.
He said part of the donation was already put to good use, new furniture was already bought and the balance was put aside for upcoming competitions.
