Zimbabwe National Editors Forum (Zinef) National coordinator, Mr Njabulo Ncube says the media play a huge role in the Covid-19 pandemic through dissemination of correct information timeously thereby saving lives.
Speaking during the launch of Journalists online safety Guidelines in Harare today, Mr Ncube said through proper knowledge of the use of internet as a way of information dissemination, journalists may help in curbing the corona virus.
“The Guidelines would equip journalists with skills to do their job safely and effectively, quick information dissemination helps curb the further spread of the disease by sensitizing communities, alerting policy makers and driving a positive behavior change.
“The guidelines would go a long way in countering misinformation and fake news around the COVID-19 pandemic, broadening the spectrum in reporting the pandemic and strength reporting on scientific issues,” said Ncube.
The COVID-19 Reporting Guidelines were produced with the involvement of various stakeholders including VMCZ, Zimbabwe National Editors Forum (ZINEF), Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) and the Media Alliance of Zimbabwe (MAZ).
