Colonel Dennis Pahla Succumb To Road Accident

Zimbabwe National Army Lieutenant General, David Sigauke has announced the death of Colonel Dennis Pahla who passed on Monday morning at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare.

In a statement, gen Sigauke said Mr Pahla died due to road accident.

“Colonial Pahla died from injuries sustained in a road traffic accident which occurred when the car he was travelling in rolled over into Gwebi River along the Harare-Chinhoyi road,

“His Chimurenga name, nom de guerre, was comrade Kid Nyikandeyedu, he died at the age of 64.

“Colonial Pahla was born on 17 October 1957 in Chipinge District, Manicaland Province, attended primary education at Madhuku, Manzire and later Rimai primary schools,” said gen Sigauke.

Furthermore, Sigauke said Pahla joined the liberation struggle in Mozambique.

“The late Colonel Pahla subsequently moved to Mutare where he stayed for some months before he crossed the border to join the liberation struggle in Mozambique in 1975.

“This was immediately after ZANLA forces had attacked Mutare, accompanied by a friend, the two crossed the border into Mozambique at Mary Mount Mission,” he added.

Mr Pahla operated as a rifleman, rising through the ranks to become section political commisar, Section Commander, Platoon Political Commissar, Platoon Commander and Overall Platoon Commander before he was elevated to Detachment Commander.

At the ceasefire in 1979, he went to Echo (Luwangwa) Assembly point from where he subsequently joined the Zimbabwe National Army on independence day in 1980.
