Farmers have received a major boost for the summer cropping season following the announcement of pre-planting producer prices for major crops this Tuesday.
The pre-planting producer prices that will be effective from the first of April next year are meant to incentivise and guide farmers on which crops to plant during the summer cropping season and will be reviewed whenever there is need to during the course of the selling season.
“The provider prices are as follows per metric tonne. Maize ZWL58 553,25; traditional grain ZWL70 263,90; soya bean 125 530,17; Sunflower ZWL150 636,20,” said GMB Chief Executive Officer Rockie Mutenha.
Meanwhile, the GMB Chief Executive Officer indicated that over 90 percent of inputs under Pfumvudza/ Intwasa and the Presidential Input Scheme have been distributed throughout the country.
According to experts, the announcement of the pre-planting producer prices is key in boosting confidence among farmers to produce more.
