Mwonzora Rubbishes Khupe’s Move

MDC T leader, Douglas Mwonzora has responded to Thokozani Khupe’s announcement to split the MDC T party, labeling the announcement as being “nullity” at law.

Thokozani Khupe who was yesterday suspended from the MDC T party on grounds of disloyalty held a press conference in Bulawayo this afternoon announcing that there will be two MDC T parties, one led by herself and the one led by Douglas Mwonzora.

Mwonzora through his presidential spokesperson, Mr Lloyd Damba however labeled the move by Dr Khupe as void at law as there was no official declaration of a split in the MDC Constitution.

Below is a statement from Mr Lloyd Damba sent directly to 263times:

“Her claims that President Douglas Mwonzora has joined another political party by virtue of him assuming the leadership of the MDC Alliance are not founded at all.

“The letter to ZEC is self explanatory as it indicates that the MDC leadership Issue was settled in Supreme Court Case SC 56/20
It further states that an extra ordinary Congress was held to satisfy that judgement and the constitutional dictates on the 27th of December 2020.
And by arrangement and at law the MDC T President then Assumed the position of the leadership of the MDC Alliance under the composite political cooperation agreement and he attached all necessary documents from the MDC Constitution , The Supreme Court Judgement and the Alliance Agreement.

“He did not say i am the President of the MDC Alliance Party.

“This is different from what the recalled Cllrs and Mps did because those ppl signed affidavits resigning from the party. But infact president Mwonzora attached the party constitution to show his loyalty and allegiance to the party.
“When she was the acting President she recalled Thabita Khumalo and she become a member of Parliament in her place. So the quetion now is on which party ticket is she in parliament. Already we have MPs who are in Parliament in the MDC T under the MDC Alliance ticket as was the agreed position then.
“This is not the 1st time she has been misbehaving. This is the dame way she behaved when Morgan Tsvangirai was alive. She boycotted the Late President only to resurface on his funeral.

“When the MDC Alliance agreement was being signed she was holding a parallel gathering of rebellious ppl of her kind in Bulawayo totally snubbing President Morgan Tsvangirai.

“This is the same script and the same actors. There is nothing new about it.

“When MT died Chamisa refused to pave way for her to act as the Acting President of the party now we know they are using just to destroy the MDC and spite President Mwonzora.

“But we are not worried we say good luck to her adventurism but it will end in disaster on her part. It will totally fail. Others failed before and she will lose.”
