The Meteorological Service Department (MSD) has warned of heavy rains above 50mm with heavy winds approaching per 100km/h in the southern districts of Manicaland, Mashonaland Provinces and Masvingo province from today (24.01.22) until Thursday the 27th of January 2022.
In a statement, the MSD said the heavy rains which they named (Tropical Storm Ana) is evolving in the Mozambique channel due to warm waters of the Channel.
The MSD said light rains are also anticipated elsewhere across the country with cloudy conditions prevailing.
Places that are likely to be affected include, Chipinge, Chimanimani, Mutare, Mutasa, Nyanga, Mudzi, UMP, Rushinga, Mt Darwin, Centenary, Mbire, Northern Hurungwe and Kariba Districts.
The weather department further advised people in affected areas to avoid crossing flooded rivers, stay indoors during thunderstorms and heavy rains, to secure all loose items including rooftops and to move to safer areas if they are living in flood prone areas.
