The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has by Tuesday arrested a total of 1 387 people countrywide during the ongoing operation targeting unregistered and unlicensed vehicles.
In a statement, ZRP said they impounded various vehicles and sued a number of motorists.
“On 25/01/22, a total of 1 387 arrests were made countrywide in an ongoing operation targeting unlicensed and unregistered vehicles. 790 vehicles were impounded while 589 motorists were fined for various offences, with eight motorists being issued with notices to appear in court.” Read the statement.
“A total of 16 894 motorists have been arrested since 15/01/22 with 10 514 vehicles being impounded over the period. Meanwhile, 547 people were arrested under operation no to Cross Border Crimes on 25/01/22, bringing the number of cumulative arrests to 100 115.” ZRP added.
The ongoing operation targeting motorists have left many Harare residents stranded and short of transportation since many relied on some of the vehicles on hitch hiking to and from work ever since government’s barn on non Zupco public transportation.
Many reported how they are now paying US$1.50 to Mushika shika on a one way trip to town.
