The British singer Adele took home the top 3 trophies of the night, including Artist of the Year and Album of the Year for her smash hit “divorce album”.
She also took home awards for Song of the Year for her ballad, ‘Easy On Me’.
Joking about the fact that the ballad actually won, during her acceptance speech, Adele said, she can’t believe a piano ballad won up against that many bangers.
This was the first year at the annual music awards that the Artist of the Year category was genderless, which Adele addressed in her acceptance speech.
“I understand why the name of this award has changed, but I really love being a woman and being a female artist, I do, I’m really proud of us.
“Never lose sight of why you are who you are, the reason people are into you is because of something you have in you, don’t let go of that ever,” she said.
Aside from Adele’s big night, the expanded slate of categories which saw awards for best pop act and best rap act reinstated after a 16 year absence made sure no one went home empty handed.
Ed Sheeran got his songwriting award, Sam Fender was named best rock act, Dave got the best rap prize, and Little Simz won Best New Artist, bringing her mother on stage.
