Government Suspends Teachers On Strike

The government through the ministry of primary and secondary education has suspended teachers who have not been attending duty since schools were opened on February 7 to a period of three months without salary.

The minister of primary and secondary education, Dr Evelyn Ndlovu announced this in a statement.

“The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education would like to inform the Nation and it’s valued stakeholders that all officials within the Ministry who absented themselves from duty since the official opening of schools on 7 February 2022 have been suspended without pay forthwith, for a period of three months.” She said.

Minister Ndlovu added that teachers who are put on suspension should not hinder any investigation against themselves.

“During this period of suspension, members are not to hinder or interfere with any investigation or evidence relating to the alleged misconduct.

‘Appropriate action will be taken against members who abrogate their duties and responsibilities.” She added.

Teachers have been at loggerhead with the government for a few years now, demanding to be paid salaries that ranges between US520 and US550.
