Citizens Coalition for Change {CCC} has challenged the recent Zimbabwe Republic Police {ZRP} statement which consists of guidelines CCC should follow when they host their first by election rally this Sunday at Zimbabwean Grounds in Harare.
The response comes after the ruling Zanu Pf and MDC T last Saturday both hosted rallies in Epworth and Highfield but the police did not give any protocols meant to be followed by the two political parties.
Posting on his Twitter handle, CCC spokesperson advocate Fadzai Mahere disputed the police statement.
She said the conditions within the statement violate human rights.
“Dear PoliceZimbabwe. Do the restrictions you’ve imposed on CCC Zimbabwe apply to ED Mnangagwa or are some animals more equal than others? We need new leaders!
“There is one rule for them and another rule for us. These conditions are unconstitutional and violate our right to equality before the law. Why were these restrictions not placed on ZANU PF and MDC T. The regime is scared stiff!
“Sec 67 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe gives citizens the right to support any political cause, individually or in groups. Why ban slogans at a rally? Why ban singing? Why ban transport? ZEC zim this is what we mean when we say the playing field is not free or fair!
“They were allowed to sing, chant slogans, convoy vehicles and gather in their thousands but they say CCC Zimbabwe can’t?! Police Zimbabwe are you aware that s68 of the Constitution obliges you to be substantively fair on all your administrative decision-making?” asked Mahere.
Meanwhile, during a press conference in Harare today, Zimbabwe Electoral Comission acting CEO, Mrs Jane Chigidji responded to CCC complains insisting that they won’t address their grievances if they post them on social media without formally engaging ZEC.
