Econet Founder Strive Masiyiwa Retires

Giant Mobile Network Operator Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Limited (EWZ) has announced the retirement of Strive Masiyiwa from the Board.

In a statement, the MNO announced that it’s founder Dr Strive Masiyiwa retired with effect from 1 February 2022.

“The Board of Directors of  EWZLtd would like to announce that Mr Strive Masiyiwa has retired from the Board with effect from 1 February 2022.

“The Board and management takes this opportunity to express their appreciation to Mr Masiyiwa for his entrepreneurial leadership and his unwavering commitment to the company and for his philanthropy that has changed the lives of so many Zimbabweans and across Africa,” statement read.

Mr Masiyiwa founded Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Limited and the Econet Group in 1993 and has sat on the Board until now.

Econet is the country’s largest Mobile Network Operator by subscriber base. It’s listed on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange and is one of the biggest companies in the country.

The giant MNO only yesterday launched the country’s first 5G network system.
