‘Violence Perpetrators Will Die’ Says Chamisa

Citizens Coalition for Change {CCC} leader advocate Nelson Chamisa last Sunday issued a stern warning on people who cause violence during election campaigns.

He said this in Kwekwe, where he was addressing CCC supporters during by elections rally.

Responding to the violence which happened at the rally that saw one man dying and a few hospitalised, Chamisa said if violent perpetrators continue to disrupt their campaigns, they will one day suffer the consequences.

” I will not speak about those people who cause violence, but what I want to tell you is that if we play like this in this country something is going to happen in this country.

“I will not fight with a gun, I will fight with the word of God.

“If l pray in this country other people will die because of causing violence, we will not accept those who beat others because of political issues,” he said.

Meanwhile, addressing thousands of Zanu Pf supporters last Saturday at the ruling party by election campaign in Kwekwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa also denounced violent perpetrators.

He castigated the recent comments made by Chamisa at Highfield rally.

“At Zanu Pf we are peace loving, we are not the same with others.

“Recently I saw another boy talking with his collegues, encouraging them to use violence, if they fail to win next year and I said have you failed to find other words to communicate with your collegues.

“Democracy says you don’t have to disrupt something that is needed by a lot of people, so it’s undemocratic to be violent against democracy,”  said Mnangagwa.

On Monday Chamisa updated journalists on the Sunday incident that has so far claimed one life and left 22 party supporters injured after suspected Zanu PF supporters attacked CCC supporters in Kwekwe.

Chamisa said the Zanu PF members, 16 of whom have been arrested, had plans to petrol bomb the event under the instruction of unnamed top Zanu PF leaders.

He added that they also attempted to drop a bomb on his convoy in Mbizo where he addressed thousands of party supporters to drum up support ahead of the March 26 parliamentary and local council by-elections.

“I had been informed prior that they (Zanu PF supporters) wanted to do this. I am reliably informed that the police were aware of this and they know this because they have the intelligence,” he said.
