Citizens Coalition for Change {CCC} leader advocate Nelson Chamisa last Sunday told his supporters that President Emmerson Mnangagwa may refuse to hand over power to the opposition if he loses in the upcoming 2023 general elections.
Chamisa said this in Kwekwe at Mbizo shops, where CCC held a rally to drum up support for March 26 by-elections.
Addressing party supporters, Chamisa said CCC will create a transparent environment to ensure Zimbabwe Electoral Commission {ZEC} won’t rig elections on the upcoming by-elections and next year’s general elections.
“We will tell Chigumba to be open with the voter’s roll. We want transparency in electoral processes, but we are saying if they don’t comply next year in 2023, we will invite the United Nations, because I’m seeing that my brother may refuse to handover power.
“We want to be assisted by the United Nations and SADC. We will engage with SADC and AU leaders to assist us for the election.
“I will tell them to come and assist me, because I will beat Mnangagwa back to back,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mnangagwa recently told Zanu Pf supporters in Epworth that the opposition must be careful because taking the state house will not be as easy as they assume.
In 2018, Chamisa approached the constitutional court, accusing ZEC of rigging the presidential elections.
The court declared Mnangagwa the legitimate winner, citing lack of evidence to prove ZEC had rigged.
