The Zimbabwe Republic Police(ZRP) arrested six members of an armed robbers gang on Tuesday afternoon following a gunfire shooting with Masvingo police.
The six were arrested near Gokomere Mission along the Masvingo-Harare highway where they were involved in a road traffic accident while trying to escape from the police.
They were allegedly part of an eight-man gang that had stolen gold ore in Mashava before fleeing with their loot.
The other two suspects who got away are yet to be found and police are searching for them.
Police spokesperson of Masvingo provincial Inspector Kudakwashe Dhehwa confirmed the incident.
The eight members allegedly went to Mashava on Tuesday morning where they stole gold ore from some miners and an alarm was raised, the police were alerted that the suspects were driving towards Masvingo City in a Silver Toyota Wish vehicle.
The car was spotted at the junction of Bulawayo road and Masvingo-Harare highway where police followed them into the CBD firing warning shots.
Six members of the gang were caught by the police after their vehicle collided head-on with a haulage truck moving towards Masvingo City.
The arrested members are in custody of the police and waiting to appear in court.
