YWCAZ Educates Young Women On Digital Literacy

Young Women Christian Association Zimbabwe (YWCAZ) National General Secretary, Muchanyara Cynthia Mukamuri says it is their aim that women don’t lag behind in terms of being active on social media platforms.

In an interview with 263times during a digital training in Chiveso Bindura yesterday, Mukamuri said as YWCAZ they are doing their best in engaging with young women and educating them on how to participate on social media.

“We are here in Chiveso as YWCAZ where last month we launched the digital training for young women who are under 30 so today we have began the training by trying to have every women to participate here.

“We have actually more than 100 participants that are supposed to be opening social media pages to enable them to participate in online business, online courses, this is the first stage whereby most of the women that we have here have smart phones but they use them only for WhatsApp so we want to go beyond WhatsApp, we want to go into Facebook, twitter and any other online platform, enabling them to participate in our global meetings,” she said.

She added that the young women will benefit a lot by engaging into social media platforms.

“They would benefit cross earning and getting to understand what’s happening in other countries, we wish for them to participate in online marketing and do online courses as well .

“Digital literacy that we are teaching them today is a training that we are going to do for four months ,the first four being physical and the rest online,” added Mukamuri.

Furthermore, Mukamuri said they brought a gadget for the Chiveso YWCAZ members to use and also provide them with mobile data.

“We then decided to start with a tablet which anyone who needs to use  for digital literacy can get from our YWCAZ Chiveso center and use, we also provided a generator to charge the tablet, we also brought with us a mini WIFI so as to enable the gadgets to function well.

“We have helped them download certain apps that they did not have, training them on how to use them so that together we can move at the same wave length.

“The young girls should grow up knowing that media can be used to their advantage but if it is abused it is also detrimental considering that we know we are in a rural setting,”Muchanyara Cynthia Mukamuri said.
