Citizens Coalition For Change {CCC} leader advocate Nelson Chamisa yesterday ruled out intentions to have Government of National Unity {GNU} with the ruling party.
GNU is a power-sharing government comprising of major political parties that coalesce their efforts to end conflict, and is designed specifically to accommodate all opposing political players to participate in government structures.
The assumption is that the equitable participation of the different contenders will diminish the potential for conflict and enhance the prospects for good governance, development, integration and effective delivery of social goods to citizens.
In 2009, Zimbabwe’s Global Political Agreement (GPA) helped to end conflict in the country and further established a government of national unity (GNU) with institutional mechanisms and conditions that enabled transition to a more peaceful context.
However, posting on his Twitter handle Chamisa denied GNU adding that ” dialogue must be about reforms and the road to next year’s general elections”.
“It’s about 60 weeks to the 2023 general election. Any dialogue must be about reforms and the road to 2023 not a GNU. As Zimbabweans, we must find each other to avoid a yet another disputed election & all it’s undesired consequences. We need a Pre-Elections Pact on Reforms (PREPARE),” he said.
Chamisa also told thousands of CCC supporters at Sakubva Stadium in Mutare on the just ended by elections campaigns that he rejected Mnangagwa’s offer for an inclusive government.
“We refused an offer for a government of national unity (GNU) and said let’s go to elections; those who have won will lead and those who lose will support the winners either as opposition or united government, but we will not make the mistakes we made under former late president Morgan Tsvangirai,” he said.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa who has been in cabinet since 1980 and whose party Zanu PF has been in power for 42 years recently accused the opposition of failing to deliver for 22 years.
He told villagers in Binga to return to Zanu PF,saying the opposition has nothing to offer.
