Citizens Coalition for Change {CCC] spokesperson, Fadzai Mahere has blamed the Zimbabwe National Roads Administration {ZINARA} for failing to timely disburse funds for road rehabilitation, insisting that the situation has further exacerbated public transport operations.
Recently, the media reported that Zinara distributed nearly $6 billion to all provinces and local authorities for road maintenance in the first quarter of this year under the Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP).
But posting on her Twitter handle today, Mahere accused Zinara of failing to provide efficient service delivery.
She said the state of many roads across the country has affected the public transport system.
“In addition to the failed ZUPCO monopoly, the collapse of the public transport system is made worse by the disastrous state of our roads. Road networks throughout the country have become death traps due to ZINARA corruption and poor maintenance. We need new leaders,” she said.
Mahere, sentiments come after many roads across the country are marred with potholes despite the government’s efforts to rehabilitate some of them.
The poor state of roads has also led to fatal road accidents across the country hence the disbursement of funds for road rehabilitation by Zinara will likely lessen road fatalities.
