Zimbabwe Council of Churches Appoints A New President

The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) has appointed Dr. Ignatious Makumbe of the central Diocese of the Anglican church as the new president of ZCC.

Reverent Kenneth Sibanda, who is the presiding Bishop of the Lutheran church, was appointed Makumbe’s vice.

Addressing Journalists in Harare today after the appointments, General Secretary of ZCC Dr. Kenneth Mutata revealed some of the important decisions that transpired at the annual general assembly meeting.

“The other important decisions that we also took were the reports from the secretariat and from the board, and the appointment of the new board, which is going to be chaired by Reverend Lydia Neshangwe,” he said.

The annual general assembly is a business meeting done by ZCC every two years, where they make important decisions about their work with other member churches.

Meanwhile, this year’s general assembly meeting was to adopt the new strategic direction, which informs the work they will do in 2023 to 2025.

ZCC which was found in 1964, is a member of the World Council of Churches (WCC) and is estimated to be made up of 30 Christian denominations and 10 para church organizations with an estimated reach of 3 million people in Zimbabwe.
