A male teacher at Chikonde Secondary School in Seke was arrested by the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) military police in Harare on Wednesday, facing charges of allegedly conning a brother and sister.
ZNA said the alleged fraudster, Samuel Moses, promised to secure a place for Briton and Charity Madzinga after they paid him US$260 for the ZNA recruitment.
In a statement, ZNA said members of the public should be aware of fraudsters who pretend to be part of the security forces department, insisting all its recruitment adverts are found on mainstream media.
The security sector advised the public to report to the nearest police station if they encounter recruitment fraudsters.
“The ZNA has on several occasions warned members of the public to be on the lookout for fraudsters prowling the streets purporting to be ZNA recruitment agents.
“On many occasions, the ZNA reiterates that it does not have recruiting agents or does it use social media for recruitment. All army recruitment adverts, notices and news releases are published in the main stream media.
“The ZNA continues to urge members of the public that they must report to the nearest Zimbabwe Military Police on hotline numbers 0712 842 318 and 0777 258 410, or the nearest ZRP Camp should they come across any suspicious characters claiming to be ZNA recruitment agents,” reads the statement.
ZNA is a primary branch of the Zimbabwe Defense Forces (ZDF) which is responsible for land oriented operations.
ZDF recruits military personnel once or twice a year, a measure likely done to strengthen the country’s security sector.
