ZRP Confirms The Arrest Of Shurugwi Murder Suspect

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of Emanuel Mahembe in connection with two murder cases and theft of motor vehicles in Shurugwi.

In a statement, the police revealed how the accused dated two Shurugwi business woman and later on killed them on two separate occasions.

The police also narrated events that led to Mahembe’s arrest.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Emanuel Mahembe (37) in connection with two cases of murder and theft of motor vehicles involving two business women in Shurugwi.

“In the first incident, the suspect who was in love with the victim, Idah Chigumbate (37) allegedly killed her at Todal turnoff, Shurugwi, on 21 May 2022, and dumbed the remains in Mutevekwi River Before getting away with the victim’s cellphone, identity documents and a Honda fit vehicle.

“After the callous act, the suspect then sent text messages on different occasions to the victim’s son while posing as the victim, requesting various amounts of cash using the stolen cellphone. However, the suspect could not answer phone calls, which prompted the son to make a missing person report at ZRP Dhonga.

“A trap was set, leading to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the Honda fit vehicle, cellphone and identification particulars.

“Further investigations by the police revealed the suspect once dated another business woman, Patricia Mutero (35) whom he killed in similar circumstances, and buried the body in a shallow grave along the river banks of Gwamvurachena river, Matotore village 2021,” reads the statement.

Meanwhile, over 10 murder cases have been recorded nationwide as the cases continue to surge.

The latest case is the discovery of a body of a male adult found dead at Fly overĀ  along Seke Road near the Central Business District in Harare in recent weeks.

The body had deep cuts and bruises on the forehead. There was a brick next to the body, with those who were at the scene believing the deceased was an employee of a local tobacco company in Harare.
