Atletico Madrid fans have launched a protest against a possible transfer move of Cristiano Ronaldo to the club.

The 37-year-old striker is linked with a transfer move to his former rivals. It has been reported Cristiano Ronaldo is keen to join Atletico Madrid on a loan deal next season.

This comes after Ronaldo told Manchester United that he wants to leave and look for a better club that will be competing in the UEFA Champions League.

Following the rumours, Atletico fans are already rallying against the move. The fans took to social media demanding for the club to withdraw its interest in signing Ronaldo.

Protesting against their club’s pursuit of Ronaldo, the fans have flooded social media with the hashtag ‘ContraCR7’.

Commenting on the issue, pundit Shaka Hislop has said Atletico Madrid’s fans will embrace Ronaldo once he joins Atletico and start scoring goals for them.

“Atletico Madrid of all clubs? It’s the one that makes the least sense to me.

“Of all the clubs in world football that can afford Cristiano Ronaldo – and let’s be honest, there’s only a handful – Atletico doesn’t make any sense at all.

“It makes no sense. Not just because of his time at Real but because of his personal history with that club.

“I’m sure Atleti fans will embrace him and take him on if he becomes one of their own, and especially if he starts scoring goals, but right now they have protests around this.

“You can understand why. But football is a fickle game. Football fandom even more so. But I still don’t see how this makes sense.”

Meanwhile, Ronaldo is in Manchester where he is set to meet coach Erik Ten Hag to discuss his future with the Red Devils.
