Police Allegedly Cause A Fatal Accident In Harare CBD

Several people were reportedly injured in a traffic accident that happened this morning in the Harare CBD.

When our reporters arrived at the scene of the accident, the injured had already been ferried to hospital, while the damaged vehicles were still to be towed away.

Sources who witnessed the accident accused the ZRP traffic officers of causing the accident, as they allegedly chased after a fleeing pirate taxi vehicle, popularly known as mushikashika.

Witnesses allege the pirate taxi ignored a police instruction to stop, which led to the high speed chase as the police allegedly went after it.

The accident happened at the intersection of Jason Moyo and Angwa Street beside Ximex.

A witness who declined to be named told our reporter that a commuter omnibus vehicle hit a Nissan primera as it tried to avoid the Toyota wish which was allegedly being pursued by a police vehicle.

The number of passengers injured is not yet known, as our reporters arrived at the scene when all the people on board were already being ferried to hospital.

Reached for a comment, Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said he would give enough details when investigations on what exactly caused the accident are complete.

“I’m on my way to the Herald now, I don’t have the full details about the accident. We will give full details when the investigations are done,” said Nyathi.

More details to follow….
