ED Ally And Zanu Pf Central Committee Member Mike Chimombe Wins Court Case
Fraud charges against former Affirmative Action Group (AAG) president Mike Chimombe have been dismissed after the National Prosecuting Authority withdrew charges.
The 41-year-old was arrested at his Borrowdale home on September 26 accused of swindling a Harare man of US$16,900 after allegedly selling him a non-existent housing stand in Tynwald.
He was released on Z$56,000 bail by a court a day later.
His lawyer Tapson Dzvetero said: “He has been cleared of all the charges that he was facing after the NPA made an application to withdraw the charges of fraud they had laid against him and two others (Steve Chimombe and Hermysh Katsande)
“As we always insisted, our client believes that these were trumped up charges concocted as a hinderance for him to pursue his political dream; to damage and tarnish his good image and social standing
These charges were invented by his political rivals but at the end of the day we’re happy that justice has been done and he has been excused, he’s free and he’s not facing any charges
”
Mamombe, who has been seen in President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s company on several occasions, recently won elections in Chinhoyi for a seat in the ruling Zanu PF party’s central committee
He left the AAG under a cloud after falling out with the pressure group’s life patron, Phillip Chiyangwa
